Designer in Focus

At Brymaxx, we had the pleasure of speaking with ChrisW Designs, a talented bag designer who has been creating amazing patterns since 2010. Here, Chris shares her journey into the world of bag design and what inspires her to keep creating. Let’s hear directly from her!

What was your first pattern? Did you release this or was it for personal use?

Evelyn – first released December 2010

What made you become a bag designer?

The first bag I made was from a pattern so poorly written. Think one page of text without proper punctuation, and it was ONE paragraph for the whole page! It took me hours to decipher those instructions. I don't give up easily, but that experience made me determined to learn bag making and write decent instructions which won’t leave people frustratedly scratching their heads wondering what to do—or, more likely, just toss the whole thing in the bin!

Could you share your approach to designing a bag?

You can read more about my design process here: Bag Design Process: How I Do It

Have you ever used a template for making a bag?

Yes, and they are a GAME CHANGER!

What is your definition of a great bag?

One that not only looks good but functions great too! It must have lots of pockets! LOL

Is there anything else you would like to share with our bag making community?

Yes, MORE PATTERNS… but I don't have enough hours in the day for all I want to share! LOL

Conclusion

Chris’s journey into bag design began with the determination to make things better, and it’s clear that her patterns have done just that. We love how she focuses on functionality while keeping things stylish, and we’re proud to offer acrylic templates that help you bring her designs to life with ease.
